Summary Of Sentences Of Direct And Indirect Question

There are some similarities and differences with formula direct and indirect before , if in the previous use conjunction “that”  but here some using and not. the tenses must changed backward 1 tenses.

For example the previous formula :

ü  direct : Tina said , “ I work hard”

ü  indirect : Tina said “that” she worked hard.

1.      Direct Indirect Question With “Yes Or No” Answers .

·         Direct       : Ericha Said to me , “ are you Happy ? “

( Present Tenses )

·         Indirect    : -  Ericha asked me if I was happy

  -  Ericha asked me whether I was happy

            ( Past Tenses )

for indirect here not use “said” again but change use “asked” and you must  plus conjunction “if or whether” not “that” . the tenses changed with backward 1 tenses.and question mark removed .

2.      Direct Indirect Question With “Information” Answers .

·         Direct       : Ericha Said to me , “ where your grandmother live ? “

( Present Tenses )

·         Indirect    : Ericha asked me where my grandmother lived

( Past Tenses )

for indirect here is similar to the indirect question with “yes or no” answers, only difference here is not use conjuction and the tenses changed with backward 1 tenses.
